Hey daughter, glad you are happy about Mason. Hopefully, you two will get the kinks out of your relationship and be able to move forward (last I heard you were still fighting).

In regards to your job at Wal-Mart...wow, that's cool just to type...hang in there and keep on "keepin' on" as the saying goes.

I've favorite placed you so I can read what's going on with you. We don't talk much do we? Figured this would be the best way to stay in touch with you. Don't want to be the dad that never talked or asked to see you.

Yesterday, I was in charge of the "Color Guard," a 6 man rank dressed in the best uniforms and boots and carrying the US flag (aka the "national colors"), the army flag, the organizational flag (in this ceremony it was the III Corps flag), the army retirerees' flag, and 2 M16's. This was for the monthly army retirement and local retiree ceremony here in Killeen. The post comanding General and post Cmd Sergeant Major were in charge. Yeah, it took a while, speeches, anecdotes, etc. It was an honor and we got several kudos. There were a few mistakes in our marching, but they were apparently overshadowed by the rest of the Color Guard's professionalism. They did really well. Was hoping it would be perfect, but some changes were made that caused an issue we didn't foresee. Ah well, it's over now and overall it went very well.

Other than that, I'm like you, just working, doing what has to be done and looking forward to coming home for Christmas. Should be around 23 or 24 December. Best part is, I won't be going back toFt Hood. I'll go straight to Ft Benning after my leave. Hooah!

Take care, flower. Love you very much,

Hey daughter,
your blogs make for some very interesting reading. First of all, let me say this- this response is NOT meant to sound preachy. I'm the worst sinner I know by far.
I agree with what you wrote. I have this to add: being a good Christian also doesn't mean giving up or constantly beating yourself up, it means when you mess up (and we always do), we fight to get back to where we should be- and that's the life long struggle. The fight to not do our will- the material or pointless things that seem to "make us happy." The point is to not focus on the material but to focus on the eternal. That, in itself, is a true challenge, to not let this world be the end all of what's important to us. Remember that book your mom gave me when she and I started dating- Way of a Pilgrim? That book hit it right on the head, that we are all essentially homeless pilgrims, fighting desperately against our own passions and self will to have the chance at Paradise.
OK, enough about that. Don't want you to think I've wigged out.
I pasted the below line from your previous blog:

"I’m working on making a good friend or two. I’ve met some cool people and I’m hoping I can actuallly be friends with them."

Just curious who and what you meant.
Talk to you later. 45 days and a wake up!!!
love daddy

Bravo, well said!

I think there is a part of Christian thinking that says "It doesn't matter if I sin, all I have to do is ask forgiveness!" Its an excuse to do whatever they wish, including raping children. This of course leads to a superiority complex.

wow, this is a better template compared to the previous one. I'm not a psychiatrist or something , but if you like this template, this would signify that your life is getting brighter. Gone are the blogs when you would curse the whole world. Now, they are full of happy moments. Good luck!
Say hello to chooi ;)

Heeyyyy...how'd your blog site address me automatically?? That's kinda creepy, huh? Speaking of creep, been watching season 1 of Supernatural. Not too bad. That car he has is a late 60's Impala, I think.

Your mom was telling me about the word game. She was probably doing it while we chatted on the phone the other day.

Oh, you can appreciate this one- got a new all time favorite band, right up there with Zeppelin, no kidding. Alice in Chains from Seattle. Never thought they'd make such an impression on me (downloaded almost everything they've done). Saw Puddle of Mudd and Saliva here last week- they performed a free concert for troops right on Camp Hovey. Not bad, but I expected better. Unfortunately, Alice in Chains' lead singer Layne Stahley OD'd on a speedball (cocaine and heroin) in 2002. Never fails, anybody I like in music, they end up dying just like Zeps' drummer and Kurt Cobain.
Just another day, dammit. MIss you daughter. Keep me posted on your back etc.
love you, miss you, (tell Mason I said Hey!)

Sounds like a fun day, minus the fearing for his life. So glad you like to fish. Would like to join you 2 when I get back (depending on what uncle sam has me doing). I would have so taken a picture of both of you after your escapade, ha ha.
love you, daddy
